When things feel stuck in your relationship

You might notice:

  • Conversations go in circles without resolution

  • Small issues quickly turn into bigger arguments

  • One or both of you feel unheard or shut down

  • You’re not sure how things became this distant

Counselling provides a space to slow things down, understand what’s happening between you, and begin responding to each other differently.

If you’re wondering whether counselling might help your relationship, you’re welcome to book an initial session or get in touch.

How Counselling Works

Starting counselling can feel like a big step, especially if you’re not sure what to expect. The process is designed to be supportive, steady, and paced around what feels manageable for both of you.

1. Getting started

Your first session is a chance to talk about what’s been happening in your relationship and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out—just a starting point.

2. Understanding the patterns

We look at the patterns that tend to show up between you—especially the cycles that lead to feeling stuck, disconnected, or misunderstood. The focus is on understanding, not blame.

3. Working towards change

From there, we begin to explore different ways of communicating and responding to each other so conversations feel less reactive and more constructive.

4. Moving forward

Over time, the aim is to help you feel more connected, more understood, and clearer about how to navigate challenges

Common areas I work with include:

  • Ongoing conflict and communication breakdown

  • Trust issues and infidelity

  • Feeling disconnected or considering separation

  • Parenting stress and ongoing disagreements

  • Emotional distance in long-term relationships

  • Establishing clear agreements and boundaries

  • Supporting co-parenting communication

  • Moving forward with confidence and understanding

What we can work through together

If your relationship feels stuck, disconnected, or under strain, counselling offers a space to slow things down and begin understanding what’s really happening between you.

This may include support with:

Breaking patterns of repeated conflict so conversations feel calmer and more constructive

  • Breaking patterns of repeated conflict so conversations feel calmer and more constructive

  • Rebuilding emotional connection when distance has grown

  • Navigating uncertainty about staying together or separating

  • Managing parenting stress and ongoing disagreement

  • Strengthening communication so both partners feel heard and understood

The focus is not just on managing difficulties, but on helping you relate to each other in a more open and connected way.

When couples begin to shift, they often tell me:

“It’s the first time in ages I’ve felt like we’re on the same team.”

“I’m not walking on eggshells anymore.”

“We’re finally talking without shutting down or blowing up.”
