Possibilities of AI
While AI has opened up new possibilities for mental health support, it still lacks some of the vital ingredients for couple therapy.
While AI has opened up new possibilities for mental health support—offering convenience, affordability, and instant responses—it still lacks some of the most vital ingredients that make therapy, especially couple counselling, truly effective. The emotional complexity between two people in a relationship often calls for more than analysis or advice; it requires a human presence that can attune to subtle cues like body language, tone of voice, and emotional energy in the room.
In couple work, safety, trust, and empathy aren’t just helpful they’re foundational. These qualities are built not just through words, but through shared moments, attuned silences, and the kind of deep listening that comes from genuine human connection.
As helpful as AI might be in some areas, it simply can’t replicate the nuanced relational space that real-life counselling creates. That’s why I continue to believe in the transformative power of sitting down with another human being and working through what truly matters together
